Preparing for the Session
Session time: 1 – 1-1/2 hours
Before the session it’s best to ensure that your child has been fed and is rested. That should make for a re-energised and happy little subject for the start of the shoot!
Though, of course, breaks during the session for either you or your child are absolutely fine.
Portrait sessions can be booked for weekdays or weekends. But in a busy world, it may be tough for your family members to get away from the office during the work day. I can, however, organise sessions with you during lunch hour.
On arrival at your home we’ll sit down and discuss your thoughts on the range of shots you’d like to create during the session. We can do as many combinations of family groups as you’d like.
Post-Session
About a week after the session your contact sheets will be delivered to your home/office via registered mail. Each contact sheet has a sticker on the back with a letter identifying it—e.g.: A, B and so on—and each image is numbered. Once you have decided which images you’d like printed, please send me an email quoting (for each image) the contact sheet letter, the image number (1-36) and quantity of prints required.
All images can be cropped to your specifications and the contrast of each image can be easily adjusted to appear lighter or darker. Hand-finished prints take about a week to process but can be “express” printed should you have a deadline. Greetings cards, framing & canvas prints take about 2 weeks to complete.
Clothing
For clothing, I would suggest family members wear similar neutral tones as fancy or patterned attire will distract from the subject. Since we’re trying to capture natural images, I also find that a slightly more casual approach tends to work better. Logos can look dated very quickly, so I recommend plain clothing wherever possible. White, black, grey or light pink T-shirts, shirts, dresses, polo- or turtle-necks, beige or khaki trousers, skirts or denim jeans all work well.
Whatever the attire though, it needs to be clean, ironed and looking fresh.
Another advantage of doing the session at home is that changes of clothing can be done quickly and comfortably.
For pregnancy sessions, simplicity is best. I suggest that you have on hand a selection of your pregnancy wardrobe—i.e.: black and white, figure-hugging clothes and soft shawls/fabrics. In addition I will bring a range of satin and muslin fabrics for draping.
Hair and make-up services can also be arranged, in which case the stylist will need to arrive an hour or so before I do.
